Ash Wednesday

HUMP Day Haiku

It was a struggle, but I was finally able to write a haiku
about Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent.
Following the haiku is a poem I wrote not too many years ago
on another Ash Wednesday.

to meditate on
the crucifixion of Christ
gives meaning to Lent

Lenten rose

arching out of the cold
winter soil
a single stalk promises
 two blossoms
this Ash Wednesday

Oh beautiful! The haiku, your poem and your Lenten Rose. My "Rosemary" hellebore is in full bloom. If it's not as rainy tomorrow, I'll get a photo to share. :)

The hellebore photo was taken later in the season than Lent, and this year it looks like the clump will have at least three blooms. A 'Rosemary' variety...how nice. I look forward to seeing her.
